In the Christian tradition, January 6th is known as the Feast of Epiphany, a celebration of the stargazers who offered their gifts to a child they believed would change the course of history.
It is a day of manifestation. Revelation.
On the 2022 Epiphany, we stargazers offer this kindling spell as a gift for those who wish to gently re-illuminate their spirits of democracy. The experience takes under 10 minutes but involves revisiting memories of the attempted coup, so engage with caution and care.

WHY DID WE START BREAK THE SPELL?

At the dawn of 2021, we declared ourselves thusly:
As the next era begins…
As we emerge from the fires of injustice and revelation…
We stand in an American crucible, teetering on the precipice.
To survive the last four years, the last 400, we’ve found deep wellsprings of power – in ourselves, in our neighbors, in the streets, the moon, and the stars. We are ready.
Now is the time to conjure a New America.
To embody our ever-aspirational founding words.
To build community in an age lacking coherence and shared reality.
To hold generations of leadership accountable for their failure of imagination.
But first, we must dismantle longstanding systems of oppression and defeat the forces of fear sucking us into chaos.
We must break their spell... with our own magick.
Each of our self-led experiences – be them ritual, spell or other magick – contain five steps designed to help you process this moment in history.
Together, we will open a channel between the personal and the political, a window into our collective experience, a door for all who wish to enter.

GLOSSARY
RITUAL (n.): A ceremony employing symbols, words and actions to touch the depths betwixt and beyond the five senses.
Sentence example: A ritual can serve as an umbilical cord to healing, to change, to manifesting, to moving on.

SPELL (n.): A tool, often based in incantation, that seeks to create a specific outcome or reality. Also known as a prayer.
Sentence example: The most famous spell of them all, Abracadabra, means “I create as I speak.”
